SMALL CITY GIRL WITH BIG CITY DREAMS

It took me two months into the Fall season to finally look at my outerwear collection inside my closet. It was there that I found my nude, suede high-waist leggings tucked away. Immediately, I paired the leggings with my white corset and tan coat to give it an early Fall look.
I was out the door in less than an hour to meet with my photographer.
As I walked on the streets of downtown St. Paul with the privilege to do what I love, I realized how far I've come.
I was sheltered growing up in a small city. I always dreamed, but was too afraid to step outside into the world.
As a child, I recalled the neighbors' kids knocking on my door to ask my parents for permission if I could come out and play. My parents would kindly refuse and tell them I was busy with homework or not feeling well. Every time this happened, I would sneak a peek outside my window and watch them walk away in dissatisfaction wondering how it felt to be so free. This went on for several occasions until one day they finally stopped.
To hide my disappointment, I would lock myself in my room and read until I fell asleep or draw until I had notebooks filled with pictures.
My pictures were often about an ordinary girl becoming a huge star, or the class nerd who won prom queen. This fictional character of mine was never the same, but they shared a commonality in proving people wrong. Not only were they beautiful inside and out, but they held their own and took charge of their destinies.... Everything I dreamed of.
Even though I never became a huge star or won prom queen, my social life bloomed. My undying curiosity for what the world has to offer allowed me to dream even bigger.
The little girl who was once afraid of the world now wants to be on top of the world. This mentality, along with my experiences, taught me 3 things that I would like to end today's post with:
1. Don't let anyone stop you from doing what you're meant to do.
Always keep your head up and don't stop looking forward. It is your calling that requires no explanation. You do not owe anyone anything.
2. Be patient and let peace within.
There will be challenges. You will come across hurdles. Allow yourself to breathe. Allow yourself to live. Allow yourself peace.
3. Always be grateful.
Count your blessings everyday, so, when life gets hard, you'll remember that there are brighter days to come.
